Hi and thank you for visiting the Maine NAPUS website this week. Some exciting things are taking place in the District of Maine and I would like to take this opportunity to talk about a couple of them. First off, if you were at the convention I discussed the posting of offices that have been without a Postmaster for years and they needed to be filled because the people in those towns deserve a stable Postmaster. Well today, they are open thanks to the diligence of NAPUS and the District staff getting this done in a timely fashion. I would be remiss if I didn’t publicly thank a couple of people in this endeavor. Rene Albert took this task and ran with it when it became evident that what our organization has been fighting for in this aspect for years, and Tim Haney our Area Vice President for directing the district to have these offices posted and filled, and of course the District Manager Bill Boughton for insisting that these offices be filled when he was made aware of the issue. So to all of you this is a sincere thank you from me. If someone you know or one of your employees are selected for one of these positions remember to tell them that this is a direct result of what NAPUS does for Postmasters and make sure they join our team.
Since the survey that went out to all Postmasters in the Northeast Area has been published and made public, I have personally seen a big improvement in the way Postmasters are treated, I don’t get half of the phone calls that I used to get and I sincerely believe that the District staff has taken to heart the results and feel that they can help us in feeling more like managers then craft employees. Let me make myself clear, I am not saying things are perfect, but we are making a difference in how we are treated as Postmasters and if you take a hard look at the difference from just a few short months ago then you may see the same results.
How many of you have noticed that we aren’t being scrutinized as we were since we have made people in the upper level management positions aware that the results are real and must be dealt with? Look at the change in the logs that we fill out, not as repetitious as the were thanks to NAPUS PM rep Brian Carrier directly taking this task on with the district staff. Thanks Brian.
I hope you all have a great week and I will be talking to you shortly, if I can boot my laptop up in St. Louis I will hopefully get you all updates from the convention which begins on the 23rd of this month and I will send Norm some updates.
Until Next Time,
Scott |
